Every weekday morning, a familiar and stressful scene plays out across Cyberabad. In a razor-thin 15-minute window, nearly two lakh vehicles converge onto the roads outside local schools. Parents rushing to beat the morning bell drive under intense pressure, navigating tightly congested lanes where a single double-parked car can trigger a gridlock that ripples across the entire IT corridor.
The consequences go beyond lost time. Cyberabad Police Commissioner M. Ramesh recently noted that this daily scramble creates severe road safety hazards, strains family schedules, and occasionally leaves children stranded when communication gaps occur during afternoon pick-ups.
Recognizing that traditional traffic management is no longer enough, law enforcement is shifting from reactive policing to structural civic reform. In partnership with the Society for Cyberabad Security Council (SCSC), the police are rolling out a tech-driven ecosystem: the Student Mobility Digital Public Infrastructure platform.
Data-Driven Planning Meet London-Style Infrastructure
The initiative is backed by a massive joint survey that analyzed the commuting habits of 4.1 lakh students across 526 educational institutions. The findings confirmed a stark reality: school-hour traffic peaks match or exceed the worst of the IT corridor’s rush hour.
To solve this, the SCSC is looking toward international benchmarks, adapting framework principles from the Transport for London (TfL) model. Instead of relying on isolated, school-specific buses or a sea of single-occupancy private cars, the new digital infrastructure will pool multiple existing transit networks into a single, cohesive system.

By transitioning families from individual private cars to optimized, pooled transit, officials estimate that parents could see their monthly commuting expenses slashed by up to 50%.
Addressing the Trust Gap: Safety and Oversight
For any shared student transit model to succeed, parent buy-in is critical. Addressing this directly, Commissioner Ramesh recently hosted a virtual town hall via a live YouTube interaction, engaging with over 5,000 parents, school administrators, and community stakeholders.

The project will actively onboard and train trusted local community workers—including women from self-help groups, ASHA (Accredited Social Health Activist) workers, Anganwadi staff, and GHMC sanitation personnel—to serve as certified transit supervisors and attendants.
These supervisors will handle the physical transition of younger children from the vehicle doors straight into the school gates, providing peace of mind to anxious parents while generating crucial supplementary livelihood opportunities for local community workers.
The initial rollout phase is already underway, focusing on deep data analysis, controlled route planning, and extensive parental awareness campaigns before expanding into full-scale operations.
